Choosing a Splint

Pain in the wrist or at the base of the thumb when grasping or pinching or a thumb starting to look “crooked”, are symptoms that are often due to arthritis.

Overuse tendinitis (inflammation of the tendons), Skier's thumb, Gamekeeper's thumb, De Quervain's syndrome or nerve compression, are among the conditions that frequently affect the hand and wrist.

The pain and disability these problems cause can often be successfully cared for with a properly chosen and properly fitted splint or brace.

3-Point Products provides a variety of carefully designed supports and splints for the hand and wrist. To help you decide which of our splints to choose we have labeled them according to the degree of control or support they provide. In some cases, you may decide on two splints, one for rest at night while you sleep and a lighter support for daytime use.

Light

Our light control splints support through light compression and contoured designs to protect the joints. Ideal for daytime use at work and at home and for use in sports and active leisure time activities.

Moderate

Choose splints with moderate control when joints need to be protected and muscles and ligaments rested but not fully immobilized. These splints support through partially immobilizing the joints to promote protection and rest.

Firm

When full rest is required to quiet pain from injury, severe pain due to overuse or arthritis, a molded plastic splint or one with a metal stay may be indicated. These splints limit or stop motion to allow affected joints and tissues to heal.
